SELLERS BEWARE: The subject came up the other day regarding Discount Brokers – we all know who they are – brokers offering sellers a chance to list their homes for a discounted commission so they can get their homes in the MLS system. The problem with this is that the sellers are not aware that some of these brokers are not looking out for their best interests, only the broker’s interest. I have heard of some whose only idea of offering a discount commission is to obtain buyers from these listings, not marketing and selling the home. Unfortunately, the Professional REALTORS have no way to combat these agents and I personally am sickened about the misrepresentation they give their sellers. Listing a home and offering to advertise in the MLS is not marketing a home – it is simply loading it into the system. When you hire a realtor to sell your home, their job is to MARKET your home – isn’t that what you are paying them for??? Placing a home on the MLS is not marketing – Advertising is marketing. Professional REALTORS know that their job is to market their client’s home to make it stand out from the others. At whatever means they have, they are the ones who push their listing and give them the best representation available. Marketing is not cheap and likewise, neither is their time and effort. For all you sellers out there -BEWARE – not all Realtors are alike – my advice, if you are going to list your home, interview and compare a few Realtors and see what they have to offer – REMEMBER THEY ARE WORKING FOR YOU!!
